How to Install Dropr on Shopify (Step-by-Step Guide)

May 8, 2026 · 4 min read · Updated June 27, 2026

Dropr goes from the Shopify App Store to your first live recommendation block in about 3 minutes. Here's the full walkthrough so you know exactly what you're clicking before you start.

The most common question we hear from new users is: "How long does setup actually take?" The honest answer: 3 minutes if your product catalog is already set up, maybe 5 if you want to customize your first pairing right away. There's no code to write, no theme files to touch, and nothing that requires a developer.

Here's exactly what happens, step by step.

Step 1: Install from the Shopify App Store

Go to the Shopify App Store (apps.shopify.com) and search for Dropr. Click the app listing and then click Add app. Shopify will ask you to confirm which store you're installing it on -- select the right one and click Install.

Shopify will ask you to approve the permissions Dropr needs. These are standard read permissions for your products and orders -- Dropr needs to read your catalog to build recommendations, and needs order data for revenue attribution. Click Install app to confirm.

You'll be redirected to the Dropr dashboard inside your Shopify admin.

Step 2: Your first look at the Dropr dashboard

The dashboard shows you three things: the recommendation block builder, your product catalog, and (once you have data) your attribution stats. On day one, most of this is empty -- that's normal.

The first thing you'll do is create your first recommendation pairing. Click New recommendation or Add pairing.

Step 3: Create a product pairing

Select a source product -- the product where you want the cross-sell block to appear. Then select the recommended product -- the item you want to suggest alongside it.

You can add a short label for the recommendation block ("Goes great with" or "Pairs perfectly with") or leave it as the default. Either works.

Hit Save. Your first pairing is created.

Step 4: Choose where the recommendation block appears

Dropr places recommendations in two locations: the product page (below the add-to-cart button) and the cart drawer (when a shopper adds to cart). You can enable one or both.

For most stores, we recommend enabling both. The product page recommendation catches shoppers before they commit; the cart drawer catches them right after -- two different moments, two different opportunities.

Step 5: Add the recommendation block in your theme editor

This is the one manual step, and it takes about a minute. Dropr links you straight to Shopify's theme editor from the dashboard. In the editor, open a product page, click Add block where you want the recommendation to appear, and choose the Dropr block. To switch on the cart drawer recommendation, enable Dropr's app embed in the same editor. Then click Save.

Dropr runs on Shopify's theme app extension system, so it places the recommendation block through these app blocks without editing any of your theme files. There's no code to inject and no liquid to edit -- it's clean and fully reversible. Open a product page in a new tab to see it live.

What to check after adding the recommendation block

Open your store and navigate to the product page for the source product you configured. You should see the recommendation block below the add-to-cart button. It will automatically match your theme's fonts, colors, and button style.

If the recommendation block looks slightly off -- different padding, wrong font weight -- there's a style override option in the Dropr settings that lets you adjust specific visual properties. Most themes work out of the box; Online Store 2.0 themes in particular match automatically.

What Dropr does not do during installation

Dropr doesn't inject code into your theme files. It doesn't create new pages. It doesn't edit your product descriptions or meta fields. It doesn't require you to contact support to get set up. Everything is handled through the Dropr dashboard inside your Shopify admin.

If you ever uninstall Dropr, the recommendation blocks are removed automatically and your theme is left exactly as it was. No cleanup required.

The 14-day free trial

Dropr starts a 14-day free trial immediately after installation. You have full access to all features -- product page recommendation block, cart drawer recommendation block, revenue attribution dashboard -- for two weeks before you're charged anything.

After 14 days, it's $19/month flat. No tiers, no per-order fees, no overage charges. One price regardless of how many orders you have or how many pairings you create.

How long until you see revenue attribution data?

Attribution data starts appearing as soon as customers interact with the recommendation block and complete purchases. If you have steady traffic (50+ sessions per day), you'll typically see your first attribution data within 24-48 hours.

Dropr tracks the full path: impression → click → add to cart → order placed. Orders within 7 days of a recommendation block click are attributed to that recommendation.
